Cairns community groups to share in over $1.2 million of funding

17 community groups in Cairns will benefit from $13.7 million worth of grants as part of Round 99 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

Member for Cairns Michael Healy said “In this latest round of funding, community groups will benefit from grants that will help them purchase equipment and improve their facilities and services,”

“The Gambling Community Benefit Fund is the state’s largest one-off grants program and provides about $55 million a year to our vital community groups.

“For Cairns that means the local netball and dragon boat club will enjoy improved facilities next season, just two of the 17 recipients sharing in $340,486.00

“Players and spectators can look forward to a new scoreboard and shade structure at Cairns Netball Association,” Cairns Mr Healy said.

“Cairns Dragon Boat Club now has over $33,000 to spend on new equipment and a trailer to charge down Chinaman Creek and beyond.”

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said applications for the next round of funding were now open.

“Grants are worth between $500 and $35,000 and applications are open to not-for-profit, community-based organisations,” she said.

“I encourage any community organisations to apply for this funding.”

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund round 101 is now open and will close at 11.59pm on 31 May 2019.
