As promised at the 2017 State election, the Palaszczuk Government is delivering more police across Queensland and the Far North will receive more police this financial year.
Member for Cairns Michael Healy said the Government is on track to deliver on its election commitment, but wants to see it delivered faster.
“The commitment was to deliver extra police by the end of the 2021-22 financial year,” Mr Healy said.
“However, I am calling for extra police to be delivered to Cairns as soon as possible”
Mr Healy said the extra resources would add to the great work police in Cairns were already doing.
“Our hardworking police officers do a brilliant job keeping us safe.” He said.
“And the Palaszczuk Government is committed to properly staffing police in regional Queensland.
“In fact, since our Labor Government was first elected, the approved police strength of our region has increased by almost 60 officers.
“However, the need for more police is evident and I would like to see these extra police on the beat sooner rather than later”.
“I have spoken with Minister for Police Mark Ryan on the matter in Parliament last week and am now making a public call for action” he said.
