The next chapter for Cairns Meals On Wheels will begin in Westcourt, after it moves from its current site at Barlow Park in mid-2025.
The $5 million in funding from the Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority will allow a new facility to be built at Westcourt. Cairns Regional Council is providing a long-term lease for the land while Cairns Meals on Wheels is also contributing funding to fit out the new facility.
The Queensland Government, Cairns Regional Council and Meals on Wheels agreed to permanently relocate Cairns Meals on Wheels to the new, purpose-built facility.
While other options were explored, a permanent relocation will provide for current and future demand for Meals and Wheels services in the region, and not impact on continuity of service.
Cairns Meals on Wheels is supported by nine paid staff members and more than 90 volunteers, which include kitchen helpers and delivery drivers. For more information on the service visit Cairns & FNQ Home Delivered Meals | FNQ Meals on Wheels
