Labors State Election Campaign Begins In Cairns

The Miles Labor Government kicked off its election campaign from Cairns on Saturday the 30th of September, launching Labor’s economic plan for Queensland.

To mark the start of the 2024 election campaign I was joined by Premier Steven Miles, Deputy Premier Cameron Dick and Minister Shannon Fentiman who outlined the plans for economic growth and cost of living support. The plan will deliver a more diverse economy with more jobs, better jobs and higher wages.

Some of the major announcements on the day included:

* The Queensland Seafarers Skills & Jobs Fund, a $15 million commitment that will support the state’s maritime industry by delivering jobs, world-class skills, and securing Queensland’s place as a leader in the global maritime sector.

* $45 million to deliver a common user hangar at the Cairns Eastern Aviation Precinct. The 10,000 square metre hangar will support the growing aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul sector.

* A $10 million investment in Tourism Tropical North Queensland to support the return of overseas tourists and grow the value of domestic tourism
